Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC)

First opened for cargo operations on June 27, 2010, and later began passenger flights in October 2013, Al Maktoum International Airport has seen significant developments. As of April 28, 2024, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, approved the designs and commencement of construction for a new AED 128 billion passenger terminal.

This project will make Al Maktoum International Airport the world's largest, with a capacity of 260 million passengers annually, five parallel runways, and 400 aircraft gates. It is part of a broader strategy to develop Dubai South into a major urban hub, accommodating a million residents and housing leading logistics and air transport companies. The new terminal aims to enhance Dubai's position as a global aviation center, with significant economic and environmental benefits.
