Dubai South, the largest major urban development focused on aviation, logistics and real estate, has achieved several exceptional milestones across its various regions during 2023, the best performing year ever, most notably attracting 428 new companies, selling out a number of real estate projects entirely, and signing important partnerships.
In 2023, Dubai South Properties delivered the first phase of the pulse villas project, which includes 268 residential units, and this was the first project of its kind launched within the residential area of Dubai South in 2021, and includes 342 units consisting of two, three and four rooms in its various stages, while the second phase is scheduled to be delivered during the first quarter of 2024.
Dubai South's real estate sector maintained its strong performance throughout the year, coinciding with the launch and sale of Dubai South Properties the three phases of its 'South Bay' project, which includes 800 villas and townhouses, 200 luxury waterfront villas, a kilometer-long lagoon, and a 3-kilometer waterfront walkway.
Ginco General Contracting has been awarded a contract to develop the first two phases of South Bay. 2023 also saw a continued focus on the development of social infrastructure in the residential area with the opening of a 50,000-square-foot hypermarket and a large park with children's play areas and activities areas. Construction work has also begun on the first school to adopt the British curriculum.
With 428 new company licences issued, the total number of companies operating in Dubai South reaches 4,101, with 95% of the companies retained.
In terms of partnerships, Dubai South's logistics zone has signed several cooperation agreements to strengthen its position as a prominent contributor to the UAE's growing logistics sector.
Several facilities in the logistics zone were also opened during 2023, including the Audi Volkswagen MEA distribution center, IDA healthcare center, and a new warehouse from Amazon.
The Logistics Zone launched the "Remote Inspection" project, the first of its kind in the region, in cooperation with Dubai Customs. Dubai South also announced the completion of the system of linking the logistics operations of companies with blockchain integration technology in partnership with Dubai Customs, becoming the first free zone in Dubai to achieve this achievement.
